And we’re off on our next summer series, a day trip from your home away from home in the Deerfield Valley to Quechee Village.
Located just an hour and a half north, you’ll find the Quechee Village in Hartford, Vermont. Located along the Ottaquechee River, featuring Quechee Gorge dubbed the “Grand Canyon of Vermont”, this picturesque destination is a great day trip during your vacation with plenty of activities and sightseeing to keep you busy!
Start with a stroll through the village itself. Not to be missed is the Simon Pearce glass blowing studio. On the banks of the Ottaquechee river, sits the former Quechee Mill now housing the glass blowing studio, powered by the river falls. Visitors are welcome to pop in to watch the glass blowing in action. Their flagship store also features an award winning farm-to-table restaurant.
Next up, a visit to the Vermont Institute of Natural Science. Their raptor rehabilitation center and sanctuary is home to numerous birds of prey, as well as other animals. They offer educational programs dedicated to teaching people about nature and wild animals, and the chance to walk around the outdoor sanctuary and see some of New England’s most spectacular wildlife. Opening in the fall of 2019 is their Forest Canopy Walk, an interactive view from above full accessible to guests of all abilities. Winding throughout the Institute’s 47 acre property, visitors will experience the forest and it’s inhabitants from a completely new vantage point.
Located conveniently on the main road through town, you’ll find the Quechee Gorge. Open May-October, a trek through the Quechee State Park provides stunning views of the gorge below. Whether you’re in the mood for a picnic or some fishing, the park has lots to offer and some rich history to absorb.
Round out your day with a pass through the Quechee Gorge Village. Featuring a Cabot Cheese shop, a distillery, toy museum, and much more you’re sure to find the perfect souvenir from your trip!
